Bloomsburg University is among leaders in the nation to offer a new health care degree, the radiologist assistant (RA). This new degree category, The Master of Science In Radiologist Assistant, will bridge the gap between radiology technologists and radiologist physicians.
APPLICATION
DEADLINE FOR FALL 2009 - May 31, 2009
The Advanced Practice Advisory Panel (a group with representation from the American College of Radiology, The American Society of Radiologic Technologists, The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, state regulatory agencies, and others) issued a consensus statement urging the development of this new career. This mid-level position, the radiologist assistant, will work under the supervision of a radiologist to promote high standards of patient care in the medical imaging environment. The duties of the radiologist assistant will include patient interaction, performance of certain radiology procedures that are currently performed by a radiologist, and participation in the systematic analysis of the quality of patient care in radiology.
The RA will help meet the needs of an increasing number of patients as the population ages, technology advances and current technologists and radiologists retire. Shortages in the radiology field are predicted to continue through 2030.
See the following article for details regarding the specific roles and responsibilities of the radiologist assistant:
