Welcome to the College of Educaton (COE) website - a place to find information on professional education programs at Bloomsburg University. Our newsletter for Spring 2009 is available, and we are excited about this issue.
The College of Education offers undergraduate and/or graduate programs in teacher education, education of the deaf/hard of hearing, interpreting for the deaf/hard of hearing, and reading specialist. The majority of programs offered in this college are accredited/approved by state and national organizations which ensure that program quality is maintained. The initial teacher education programs are among approximately 500 programs in the United States that have achieved accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The deaf/hard of hearing program is accredited by the Council for Education of the Deaf (CED). All teacher education areas of study have received program approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to recommend certification for teaching in the areas listed previously. The new Counseling Program in Educational Studies and Secondary Education, will be seeking the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) approval.
The mission of the College is to prepare exemplary professionals and scholars in the field of education who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions as reflective practitioners in a diverse and technologically complex world. We pride ourselves in graduating students whose interests are service-related. They graduate and become classroom teachers, school administrators, counselors, speech pathologists, and interpreters. Many of our students pursue graduate programs in COE by enrolling in studies that lead to specialized certifications or masters. Our faculty and staff are experienced professionals and are dedicated to excellent teaching, pursuing scholarly activities and performing civic engagement.
The field experience component of our programs provides enrichment opportunities for students in a variety of locations, including public and private K-12 schools, and community agencies locally, in the state, and across the country. We integrate technology and diversity throughout our programs, as it is entrenched within the mission of our college and the university.
I hope that you enjoy browsing through our site and that you find it user-friendly and informative. I welcome your questions and comments and look forward to you spending time at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
