What students have to say about us...

The major provides excellent career training for students who enter many fields. Recent graduates of this program have successfully acquired positions in human resources, training and consulting, fund raising, public relations, hospitality and tourism, management, sales, and teaching. Furthermore, the program provides excellent preparation for students who wish to pursue careers in business, law, government, education, and social and human services, as well as students who may wish to pursue a higher degree.

In a recent survey of our undergraduate students, over ninety percent expressed satisfaction with their overall experience in Communication Studies, including quality of the faculty advisement and the relevance of their studies to their future careers. Similarly, in a recent survey of our communication studies alumni, over eighty-five percent of students reported that they were satisfied with the results of their degree. They were especially pleased with their ability to secure employment and to take advantage of opportunities for advancement.

Here are some quotes from some of our alumni:

"In my personal and professional life, I have had the opportunity to use many of the strengths of my major. I conduct training on listening, special populations, and values; speak at civic clubs, businesses and schools; conduct meetings, coordinate events; conduct tours; develop marketing and advertising strategies; interview and supervise interns and volunteers; and write newsletters for the YWCA and Kiwanis club. I feel that my major has given me a broad knowledge base to be effective in all these areas."

- Christina M. Campbell, Volunteer Coordinator/Special Events Coordinator, Class of 1993.

"I have a lot of friends who become very anxious when they have to speak in front of a group or at a meeting. I, on the other hand, enjoy it. I am not nervous or shy about speaking out in a meet or in front of others. This has helped me to be a successful salesperson and how to be a quick learner in my new job" - Theresa Huber, Consumer Promotion Specialist Warner-Lambert Co., Class of 1992.

"I feel the education I received at BU provided me with a strong foundation for a successful career. I would choose the same major again if I were to do it over. A sincere thank you to the Department of Communication Studies" - Dorie Sobeck, Sales Specialist, Class of 1989.

"My degree, based on the available job markets, gave me the opportunity to apply to a wide variety of positions with a minimum of additional training and education. I felt my degree was a great 'foundation' degree" - Stephen Radziewicz, Customer Service Supervisor, Class of 1975.
