Alan Goodboy , Ph.D.

Dr. Goodboy earned his Ph.D. from West Virginia University and specializes in Interpersonal Communication and Instructional Communication. He joined the faculty in 2007 and teaches courses in the Interpersonal Track including Communication in Relationships, Interpersonal Communication,  Investigating Communication, Nonverbal Communication, and Communication and Conflict.  Dr. Goodboy is a social scientist who favors empirical research, preferring both experimental and survey designs. Since arriving at Bloomsburg, he has published over 25 articles in journals such as Communication Education, Communication Quarterly, Communication Research Reports, Communication Studies, Human Communication, Western Journal of Communication, Journal of Instructional Psychology, Journal of Classroom Interaction, North American Journal of Psychology, and Psychological Reports.

Additionally, Dr. Goodboy is a coauthor of a book entitled Directory of Communication Related Mental Measures and has coauthored several book chapters in the field of instructional communication.Dr. Goodboy has presented over 45 original research articles at international, national, and regional conventions and received 8 top paper awards for his scholarship. This year, his research won him the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Research/Scholarly Activity and the Dean's Salute to Excellence Award. He is currently conducting research on several topics including: relational maintenance in romantic dyads and sibling relationships, students’ use of power and affinity-seeking in the classroom, and teacher misbehavior in the college classroom.
