About the Program

The graduate Program in the Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing is offered through the Department of Exceptionality Programs at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Prospective classroom and itinerant teachers of deaf and hard of hearing students are provided with an eclectic background of coursework and experiences in the field. The Program is nationally accredited by the Council on Education of the Deaf (CED) and state accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

Camp HERO

Camp HERO provides hands-on experiences with deaf/hard of hearing campers from age 6 to 17.

Practicum

Practicum provides hands-on experience with deaf/hard of hearing children in our campus facility.

Award-Winning Online Courses

USDLA awards Dr. Samuel B. Slike and Pamela D. Berman, Bloomsburg University for excellence in distance learning in 2008 for their use of Wimba to offer courses specifically designed for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Webinars and Conferences

Dr. Sam Slike and Ms. Pam Berman (Department of Instructional Technology ) have presented webinars demonstrating how to use live web casting supported by closed captioning and an interpreter, to provide online course content. Archived materials from the SDP 2008 presentation are available. Supporting Deaf People 2008  is an international online conference.

Sam and Pam also have presented at the 2009 Association of College Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ACE-DHH) conference in New Orleans where Sam was awarded The Innovation in Teaching Teachers of the Deaf/HH Technology Award 2009.
