Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program

Practicum

Welcome to the Practicum!

During the first summer session of graduate school, students take part in a class that provides them the opportunity to interact with deaf and hard of hearing children that range in age from two to nine years old.

Graduate students are required to plan lessons for each day of the practicum that are fun and interactive for the children and are based around the central goal of providing the students with opportunities to gain new vocabulary through their experiences. Children are presented with the opportunity to learn in an open environment that does not focus on one mode of communication but allows them to experience both sign language (American Sign Language) and oral communication (Spoken English).
