Economics is a very diverse and exciting discipline that examines human behavior in our economy. Topics such as climate change, energy costs, crime, taxation policy, and international trade are but a few of the areas covered in economics. The current banking crisis has underlying economic causes and economists are the ones that propose solutions that are currently being implemented.
The Department of Economics is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Within the degree, there are three tracks: Business Economics, Economics, and Political Economics. The Business Economics track is designed for graduates who want a career in business along with an in-depth knowledge of the discipline of economics. The Economics track is for students that want to pursue careers in economics and are considering graduate school. The Political Economics track is designed for students wanting to go into a career in politics, political science, or law.
The department has nine full-time faculty members holding PhD’s from various prestigious institutions. The diverse faculty backgrounds enrich the teaching of economics. Each faculty member provides individual attention to the students and is committed to preparing our graduates for careers in banking, government agencies, and financing, just to name a few. The faculty members are active in various research areas and publish articles & textbooks regularly.
The department has an active Omicron Delta Epsilon chapter of the International Economic Honor Society in which the students participate in campus activities and field trips. An dinner banquet is held every year to honor the students who meet the academic requirements for this honor society.
One of the recent programs being offered by the Department of Economics is the Joint-degree program with The Finance Academy of Moscow, Russia. Within this program, students can study abroad in Moscow, for a semester or a year. If a student spends a year at The Finance Academy, the student will earn a degree both from Bloomsburg University and The Finance Academy. All the courses are taught in English, but learning Russian is encouraged.
We look forward to the opportunity to tell you more about our program.
