Teaching and Research Interests

Angela Runciman's research interests are the literary and critical influences of German travel, thought and life on George Eliot's fiction, in addition to religion and the medieval cathedral and their meanings for Eliot in terms of “bodies” and community. She also enjoys contemporary American drama as well as race, gender and sexuality studies--and is a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Angela teaches in a thematic style using topics of race/gender/sexuality as a foundation, developing assignments around a variety of "writing situations" (which respond not only to readings, but also lectures, discussions, films, or plays) which illustrate how reading and writing are invaluable in terms of promoting tolerance and acceptance.
