Minor
Recommendations
If you are an Arts and Sciences major, consider taking a complementary
minor to give you a second concentration that you may find a helpful
credential in searching for employment after you graduate. Minors
chosen by English majors in the past include foreign language, women's
studies, theater, business, communication studies, psychology, anthropology,
philosophy, and political science. Many others are available.
Internships
Students with 60 or more hours completed should consider an internship.
Opportunities exist in the University Writing Center, in a variety
of other campus and town locations, as well as in Harrisburg and
neighboring communities, and this "real world" experience
is a valuable credential in life after Bloomsburg. See Dr. Gulley
for further information, or visit the Internships Office in the
Student Services Center.
English Internships
provide academic credit for experience both within the university
and in the community. English majors have in past years found internship
opportunities at the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, the Town Hall,
the Chamber of Commerce, and at the University Development Office.
Prerequisite: completion of 60 credit hours. Dr.
Gulley is the English Department Internship Coordinator, and
will assist students in finding internships suitable to their interests.
The Department of English offers an internship
with the University Writing Center. Internships for tutoring in
the Writing Center are available to students in any major who are
superior writers and communicators. Training is provided, so no
previous tutoring experience is necessary. If you are interested, contact Dr. Purdy,
Writing Center Director.
