Aqueous Geochemistry Students Present Research GSA

Seven students presented research posters at the annual meeting of the Northeastern Section of the Geological Society of America in Saratoga Springs, NY. Several of the posters resulted from student research in the fall 2004 Aqueous Geochemistry class. Presentations were:

-Justin Hertzog and Michael Sullivan with faculty members Dr. Cynthia Venn, geoscience, and Dr. Christopher Hallen, chemistry, "Investigation of Kline's Creek Section of the Roaring Creek Watershed."

-John Pittenger, Chadd Sines, Dave McGovern and James Kokas with faculty members Dr. Venn and Dr. Hallen, "Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) Sites in Central Pennsylvania: Big Mine Run Versus Stirling Discharge."

-Genevieve Becker, Sarah Wade, Jacob Riggins, and Timothy Cullen with faculty members Dr. Venn and Dr. Hallen. "Effect of Bast Mine Treatment Discharge on Big Mine Run AMD and Mahanoy Creek in the Western Middle Anthracite Field of Pennsylvania."

-Chadd Sines with faculty members Dr. Venn and Dr. Braun, geography and geosciences, "Groundwater Quality Analysis of Southeastern Somerset County Pennsylvania."

GPS Elects Fall 2005 Officers

 

            The Geography and Planning Society recently elected new officials for the upcoming school year.  The organization advised by Dr. Kehoe-Forutan promotes and interest in the areas of geography, environmental planning, and urban/regional planning.  The group also promotes a sense of belonging to new students to the Geography and Geosciences Department.  The following students are to lead the GPS into the forthcoming school year:

   Vice President:         Lisa Deardorff

   Treasurer/Sec.:         Jen Wootsick

BUGS Low in Numbers

The Bloomsburg University Geological Society needs you! Many of the club's participants and officers are graduating. Programs like the Sterling Hill Mine trip and the Haystacks Hike have been organized by BUGS and must continue for the sake of fun! So contact President Justin Hertzog or Advisor - Dr. Venn  for more information on joining.
