Student Organizations

Department of History
Bloomsburg University

The Department of History at Bloomsburg University has two very active student organizations.  Our local chapter of the national history honor society, (Phi Alpha Theta) and our History Club meet together regularly and sponsor a wide variety of events.  A list of upcoming meetings/events, as well as a list of officers for each group, can be found below.

        ** Next Meeting:  Fall '06**

End of the semester is here!  Thank you to all who participated!

**CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATING SENIORS!**

hard everyone would do it...The 'hard' is what makes it great."

Upcoming events:

T-Shirt fundraiser:
This has been tabled until the fall.  The History Club will be selling "Top 10 Reasons You Know You're a History Major" T-shirts.  A sample t-shirt and order sheet will be located in the History Department office. This will be our main fundraiser so please spread the word!

Domino's Pizza fundraiser:
Please keep in the back of your mind that this fundraiser can be conducted at any time.  Tickets for a buy one pizza get one half off for $5 are available.  All proceeds go toward trips such as the one we held for Gettysburg and to bring in guest speakers.

Need help with a history class?  Want to know a little more about a certain history class or professor?  Need some help with essays, research, papers or tests?  Phi Alpha Theta members are holding information/tutoring sessions for anyone needing help in any aspect of their history classes, big or small.  Please contact the History office for more information.

**We need tutor volunteers**

             Fall hours: by appointment

History Department Banquet:  Thursday May 4th at La Fontana.  A relaxing evening with the profs and the last function for graduating seniors.

Thank you all who helped at the Haluski Stand at the Renaissance Jamboree!

History majors present at conference

Four history majors, Laura Bieryla, Lisa Braun, Andrea O'Neill, and Joseph Yasinkas, presented papers in early January at the national Phi Alpha Theta (international history honor society) annual meeting in Philadelphia. The papers are based on research these students conducted while enrolled in upper level history classes. The annual Phi Alpha Theta meeting was held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Historical Association.

Day-trip to Gettysburg:
History students got together and went to Gettysburg on Saturday, November 5, 2005.  There was a Battlefield tour and a Ghosts of Gettysburg tour and, of course, showing of Gettysburg and Glory during the ride down and back.  A great time was had by all.  Click here for pictures.

***Library Benefit Concerts***
All total, we raised $600.00 for the Loti Primary School!

Faculty Concert a success!!
Special thank you to Dr. Hickey and company for their performance and raising of $275 for the Library Project.

Benefit Concert also raises money:
The student concert raised $300 for the Library Project and a huge thank you goes out to Tony Fucci for his skills and time in organizing the event and all the bands
(Symphonic Haze, Gutterstar, 3B, September Sky) for donating their time and effort to help such a great cause, along with all the History Club volunteers that helped pull it off.  Hope you all had a good time!

Faculty/Staff - Student Softball Game, In memoriam: September 24, 2005.
The students were demoralized once again by the faculty, losing 29-7.  This less than stellar performance by the students was compounded by the fact that the faculty had "mercenary" softball players from other departments - even if they did allow us six outfielders.  The loss was worth it, if only to have some great pictures of the faculty and staff in all their glory.  click here to see them all.   Rematch set for Fall, 2006.

I would just like to say what a pleasure it was to be a student of this department and how proud I am to be one of its graduates.
