Bloomsburg Univeristy Honors Program

Application Process

Accepted at BU; received applications for Honors Program and Honors Scholarship

Congratulations! There may be other institutions that you are still considering. Your final decision may be dependent on several factors. First and foremost, you should be thinking about the quality of the program in the major that you have chosen. Financial aid may be another major consideration. The existence and quality of an Honors Program may be another factor.

If you have received both applications together, these have come from our Admissions Office. Admissions has certain criteria (primarily SAT scores, class rank, high school GPA) that determine whether you are invited to apply for the $1500 Freshman Honors Scholarship. You may also have received an application for the Honors Program from us based on an inquiry you made or an interest area that you indicated when you visited. If you want to be considered for the scholarship, you first have to be accepted into the Honors Program.

Acceptance into the Honors Program is now being done on an accelerated basis. After we receive your complete application, we will review it as soon as possible. If we like your application, we will ask you to come in for an interview on a Saturday shortly after this decision. Some time after the interview we will inform you as to whether you have been accepted into the Program or have been placed on our wait list. At the same time we will inform you as to whether you have been awarded an Honors Scholarship (if you were eligible and if you applied) or whether you have been placed on the wait list for the Scholarship award.

Therefore the first application you want to send in is the one for admission into the Honors Program. You can wait a bit on the scholarship application however both application forms with supporting documents (except your letters of recommendation, which may arrive later) have to be postmarked to us before February 15, 2008 to be considered.

Your letter of acceptance came from our Admissions Office. The application for the Honors Program could have been included in the mailing from Admissions or have come from us (after you had either inquired directly to Honors or you had indicated an interest in Honors when you visited Bloomsburg).

Accepted at BU

Congratulations! After you have been accepted you will receive additional information from the Admissions office at a later time. You may just not have received applications for the Honors Program.

If on the other hand you have been accepted for some time, you have still not received a letter of application to the Honors Program and you feel that you are qualified to be a part of our program, you are certainly encouraged to apply. There have been cases in the past when appropriate information has not been received. Go to the Forms and Publications page to get an application.

Applying/have applied to Bloomsburg University; interested in Honors Program

Good luck - hope you will be joining us. You can contact the Honors Program before you hear from our Admissions office. In fact we can send you an application before you have been accepted so that your acceptance into the Honors Program can be expedited. Go to the Forms and Publications page to get an application.

Received application for Honors Program; have not applied to Bloomsburg University

We respond to a variety of inquiries that are forwarded to us. We also reply directly to any requests. If you have received an application in this manner you can submit it to us. You should at about the same time also be applying to BU.

Still in high school; not applying to BU this year

If you are looking at your college education early, you are doing the right thing. The first part of that process is identifying those schools that will be a nice "fit" for you. This fit will depend on a lot of factors - size, location, quality of program, cost and so forth. The next step should be visits to the institutions that you are considering. Would you buy a car without test driving it? If you are considering visiting BU we would like to invite you to stop by the our Honors Center. We can tell you first hand about our program and how being a part of the Honors Program would enhance any degree program that you select at BU.

Our regular office hours are Monday through Friday 9-4:30. If you are heading to campus on a weekend, please contact us and we can arrange a meeting with you.

At another college; interested in transferring to BU

Sometimes you have to make a change and it sure is nice to go to a place where you are going to be welcomed with open arms. You can apply to BU anytime as a transfer student and you can apply at the same time to the Honors Program. You may even be given credit for Honors work you have done elsewhere. If you transfer in after the equivalent of one semester elsewhere, you still qualify for our Freshman Scholarship ($1500). If you are admitted and accepted into the Program we will attempt to make the transition in a flawless manner by setting up your first semester with appropriate Honors courses.
