Alzheimer's Walk What is it? The Alzheimer's walk is fairly new and is like the better known cancer relay for life. The walk is to support efforts to fight Alzheimer's disease, the fastest growing disease in America (due to our aging population). Alzheimer's is a degenerative brain disease. The most noteworthy recent victim of Alzheimer's was former president Ronald Reagan. Alzheimer's like cancer now touches most households. Details on the Walk will be available later. How'd we do? We have now been involved for three years in this Project. Last year we finished second in the groups participating and raised $1551!!! We are shooting for first this year. Who was involved? Many Honors students were involved both in walking and contributing. The site that detailed last year's walk is being updated. Check back here for pictures from last year's walk and more information to be posted soon.

Tree Fest What is it? A Program that benefits the Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble. More on BTE soon. Why are we involved? Because the BTE is one of the special things about the community we live in. For those of us who live here, it is one of the things that makes Bloomsburg special. For those of us who "visit" here for about 4 years, it is one of the enrichments of our college years. This will be the 3rd year that we have done Treefest. What do we do ? Each year the week around Thanksgiving, the Caldwell Consistory downtown becomes the home of Treefest. Various tree growers contribute trees. Merchants and civic groups purchase those trees with a significant donation and then decorate them. Dr. and Mrs. Schultz purchase a tree on behalf of the Honors Program "civic group". Honors students decide on a theme for the tree and then decorate the tree on the basis of that theme. The tree is then donated to a needy family after the end of Treefest (first week of December) Who was involved? A group of about 20 Honors students were involved in making decorations and/or decorating last year's tree. The site that detailed our effort last year is being updated. Check back here for pictures from last year's Treefest. |
