BOLT Workshops - Andruss Library 243

The Instructional Media and Design Center will be offering BOLT workshops beginning August 13th and ending August 24th. All face-to-face workshops will be held in Andruss Library, Room 243. Sessions held online will be indicated with an *.

Registration for Workshops

Registration for workshops will be completed online. Please fill out the form on the right side of the page to register for the workshops. Please be sure to fill out the form completely and then click the Submit button. If you make a mistake, please click the 'Reset' button. You will then need to fill in the form again and click Submit. Workshop Descriptions

 

BOLT Beginners* - (Session held ONLINE)

This is an online session for new users to BOLT. You will receive an overview of BOLT and its features. Date offered: August 13th. Please register on the right side of the page.

BOLT: Export & Copy Content* - (Session held ONLINE)

Learn how you can copy material from previous courses in BOLT to your Fall 2012 courses. You’ll also learn how to export your content to have a backup. Date offered: August 13th. Please register on the right side of the page.

BOLT: Introduction to Content

The Content area of BOLT allows you to share resources with your students. This workshop will cover how to add modules and topics containing attachments. Date offered: August 14th. Please register on the right side of the page.

BOLT: Best Practices* - (Session held ONLINE)

This session will cover best practices using BOLT including content layout, maintaining academic integrity, etc. Date offered: August 14th. Please register on the right side of the page.

Distance Education - Where Do I Start?* - (Session held ONLINE)

Have you been thinking about offering a course online? Do you currently offer a course but would like to learn more? Not sure if distance education is for you? This informative webinar will get you started. Date offered: August 14th. Please register on the right side of the page.

BOLT: Competencies

Do you want students to be able to identify which objectives and competencies they are achieving as they complete assignments, etc? This workshop will cover how to set up a competency structure in BOLT and assign the competencies/objectives to the assessment items. BOLT: Dropbox

Tired of receiving student assignments via email, keeping track of the submissions, or having problems with the attachments? You’ll learn how to set up the dropbox area for your students to submit files, view those files and provide feedback. Dates offered: August 16th. Please register on the right side of the page

 

Turnitin

Turnitin is a plagiarism prevention system provided through BOLT. Students’ papers are checked by Turnitin’s in-house copy of the Internet (including public Internet, ProQuest, Periodical Abstracts, Business Dateline, and ABI Inform) and millions of submitted papers to Turnitin. Prerequisite: Dropbox knowledge. Date offered: August 16th. Please register on the right side of the page.

 

BOLT: Discussions

Discussions are a powerful tool in learning and can carry over from a class discussion that simply ran out of time because class ended.  You will learn how to set up a discussion forum and add topics for students to participate. Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts

Campus Pack integrates social learning tools into BOLT, making wikis, blogs, and podcasts available for course assignments. Instructors can use wikis for collaborative projects, blogs to foster communication skills, and podcasts to enable learning on-the-go.. Learn how to set these up and select appropriate settings. BOLT: Quizzes

This workshop will start with creating questions in the Question Library of BOLT. Once the questions are created, you will create a quiz and select a variety of administrative settings. Finally, you will preview the quiz as if a student. Workshop Materials: A quiz or test in electronic format. Date offered: August 17th. Please register on the right side of the page.

 

Respondus & StudyMate

Respondus is a software package used to develop exams and surveys that can be uploaded to BOLT, saved, or printed with multiple versions. If you plan on using Turning Key (clickers in the classroom for testing), Respondus is one way to create your exams to be used with Turning Key. StudyMate is a Respondus product that allows you to create interactive games such as crossword puzzles, flash cards, pick a letter, etc. for in BOLT. Date offered: August 17th. BOLT: Rubrics

The rubric tool in BOLT allows you to create analytic and holistic rubrics to be used in assessing student work in the dropbox, presentations, etc. Workshop Materials: a rubric in electronic format.

BOLT - Grades: Weighted System

Students like to see immediate feedback and results. The BOLT Grades feature allows for multiple display options and feedback. If you use a Weighted grading scale, then attend this workshop on setting up weighted grades in BOLT. Date offered: August 21st. Please register on the right side of the page.

BOLT: Classlist/Groups* - (Session held ONLINE)

Do you need to email all of your students at one time? Are you curious to see if the students are viewing your content? The Classlist tool is a central area for managing information about your students. Group work is common in courses and BOLT can be used to support students in their work. This session will cover the Classlist tool and also how to set up groups and use groups in various tools of BOLT. Date offered: August 22nd. Please register on the right side of the page.

BOLT: ePortfolio* - (Session held ONLINE)

Are you looking for a different method for assessing students? Do you have students complete a portfolio but don’t want binders in your office anymore? This session will cover various uses of the ePortfolio. Date offered: August 22nd. Please register on the right side of the page.

TurningPoint

TurningPoint is a student response system to use within your classroom. It fully integrates with PowerPoint. This session will cover the basics of setting up and running a PowerPoint presentation with TurningPoint along with how the students register their clickers. Date offered: August 22nd. Blackboard Collaborate (Wimba Replacement)

Blackboard Collaborate is a software package used to bring live classroom interaction to distance students via the computer. Blackboard Collaborate provides the following opportunities: live multi-audio, PowerPoint presentations, application sharing, video, Web sharing, whiteboard, and polling. This workshop will walk you through how to set up a session. Date offered: August 23rd. Please register on the right side of the page.

TurningKey

Do you want a reliable alternative to Scantron? TurningKey is the replacement for TestingPoint and they have updated the software to improve it's functionality. Now you can use a test you already have in Word, Respondus, or from a Publisher by creating the answer keys in TurningKey. Students submit their responses using their ‘clickers’.  Date offered: August 23rd. Please register on the right side of the page.

Mediasite* - (Session held ONLINE)

Do you have content you know your students could benefit from hearing you present it again?
