What Students Need to Know About Blackboard at BU

24/7 Blackboard Support

  • Blackboard Support is available to faculty and students through the Blackboard Support Center. You can call the Bb Support Center at 1-866-434-8874 or go online. Please contact the Bb Support Center for any Bb issues you may be experiencing.

Student Login Information

  • Username: Your NEW campus network email ID preceded by 10. (Click here for more information on the NEW ID conversion).

    Password: The first 4 letters of your last name (first letter of last name capitalized) and your date of birth by full year month day.

    (Please note: If you have logged into Bb previously, your password will remain the same but your username will change to the new configuration using your NEW campus network email ID).

      • Example: John L. Smith was born on April 1, 1978.
      • Username: 10jls75632
      • Password: Smit19780401

How Do I Change My Password in Blackboard?

    1. Login to Blackboard
    2. Click Personal Information in the Tools box
    3. Click Change Password
    4. Enter your new password and verify the new password
    5. Click Submit
    6. Click OK
    7. Click OK

When Are Your Courses Available in Blackboard?

  • Students are loaded into Blackboard the Thursday before classes begin.
  • If it is after the Thursday before classes begin and you still aren't seeing your courses in Blackboard:
    • Check STINF and make sure that you are officially enrolled in the course.
    • Make sure your instructor has made the course 'available' in Blackboard - by default courses in Bb are 'unavailable' to students until the instructor makes them available.
    • If you are listed in STINF for the course and your instructor has made the course available in Bb, call the Bb Support Center (1-866-434-8874) or go online.

When Are Students Loaded Into Blackboard?

  • Students are loaded into Blackboard the Thursday before classes begin each semester. For Summer Sessions, they are loaded the Thursday before the start of the first Summer Session.

When is Blackboard Downtime for Maintenance?

  • Blackboard is offline daily for backup from 3:00 a.m. - 4:30 a.m. EST. Blackboard's standing maintenance window is Midnight - 6 a.m. on Saturdays.
