Transfer within the U.S.

This page contains information about international students who are applying as a transfer student from a college/university within the United States.

Who can apply to BU?
Transfer applicants must be certified as in good standing academically and otherwise in the college last attended and must have an overall quality point average of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 system for all courses in which passing and/or failing grades were recorded.

Tips/Hints:
Plan accordingly: it takes a bit longer to evaluate transfer applications because BU needs to determine what credits it will accept. So figure about four to five weeks before hearing from Admissions.

Send it all: BU will need both your college and high school transcripts. If you have more than 24 credits of college work, the high school grades are not that important, but BU needs to see it anyway.

Limitations: Some BU majors have minimum GPA requirements to be admitted (check with those programs first) and for all applicants, only grades of A, B, or C will transfer.

How you'll hear: After BU looks at your application and transcripts, you'll get a letter indicating acceptance, and if so, specifically what credits have been accepted toward both the major and general education requirements.

About housing: The demand for student on-campus housing at Bloomsburg is high, so there is little or no housing available for transfer students. However, Residence Life maintains a service relating to private, off-campus housing to help newcomers find nearby places to live.

How to apply?

Request official transcripts of all secondary school and college grades be sent by the schools to the university, even if no credit was earned.
Those with 30 or more semseter hours of college credit do not need to provide SAT or ACT scores (if applicable); those with fewer must provide them.
Acceptance is determined by the director of admissions after evaluation of high school work, achievement, SAT or ACT test scores, personal characteristics and enrollment capacity. Decisions are made without regard to race, age, color, creed, national origin, gender or disabilities.

The Process
Application reviews are made as they are recieved and on their own merit. Those seeking fall semester admission should have applications in by April; those seeking spring admission should have their applications in by Oct. 1. What transfer credits apply to the major at Bloomsburg is determined by the academic department. Applicants generally receive a decision within a few weeks. The university canno guarantee on-campus housing to transfer students.
