GSA students participating in panels have undergone training regarding how to properly conduct themselves during these panels, how to treat sensitive questions, and how to approach this particularly controversial topic in an inoffensive and educationally productive manner.  It has been my personal experience, as well as the experience of my peers in this student organization, that responses toward these panels have been extremely positive—not only from the perspective of the professors  but also from the students in the classroom.  The GSA strongly believes that the first step to true equality is through knowledge and understanding, and we hope that by allowing us to speak with your class, we will open the doors for honest communication and genuine learning.

Colleagues, as co-coordinators of the BU LGBTA Commission we would appreciate your help in incorporating these panels into your classes.  An education about diversity is a vital part of all of our curriculums across all colleges and we would like to make the panels pertinent to your specific subject matter. While this is most obviously done in some areas such as sociology, it is no less pertinent to any area where you are educating students to succeed in a diverse society. A major part of the mission of the commission is providing education about and promoting understanding of the LGBT community on our campus.
