Dr. Tracey Schmidt-Jaynes is Assistant Professor of Flute and Music Theory at Bloomsburg University. Previous teaching positions include Vanderbilt University, University of Northern Arizona, and the University of Colorado-Boulder.
Dr. Schmidt-Jaynes received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance from the University of Colorado-Boulder, a Master of Music in Flute from Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance and Music Theory/Composition from the University of North Texas. At the University of Colorado, she received the Graduate Student Teaching Excellence Award. Her primary flute teachers include Alexa Still and Mary Karen Clardy, and she has performed in masterclasses including those of James Galway, Carol Wincenc, Paula Robison, and William Bennett. Solo flute performances have included the National Flute Convention in Chicago and Flute Society Festivals in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Arizona, Colorado, and Tennessee. She is currently Chair of the Young Artist competition of the MidSouth Flute Society.
Dr. Schmidt-Jaynes is piccoloist with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, and has previously performed with the Nashville Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony Orchestra and the Rapides Symphony Orchestra. She was a 1997 winner of the National Flute Association Masterclass Performer’s Competition, and placed in the 1998 Mid-South Flute Festival Young Artist Competition.
Dr. Schmidt-Jaynes is published in Flute Talk magazine and contributed a chapter on musical borrowing in George Crumb and the Alchemy of Sound; Essays on his Music.
