48.497 Practicum in Psychology

Description: Provides supervised field experience (40 hours per credit) in a community setting. Requires attendance at class sessions and completion of writing assignments to promote awareness of ethical issues and integration of field experience with psychological knowledge. May be taken for 3-15 credits. Regardless of number of credits taken, this course fulfills one of the required senior-year capstone courses for psychology majors.

Prerequisites: 90 credit hours; Minimum grade of C in 48.101 General Psychology; Minimum grade of C in 48.160 Basic Statistics, Minimum grade of C in 48.281 Experimental Psychology: Methodology, successful completion of 48.282 Experimental Psychology: Applications, AND consent of the instructor.

make an appointment for your first interview with Dr. Beck or Dr. Dalton before the deadlines below;

complete a Practicum Application;

obtain a transcript listing your courses and grades: this can be your most recent grade report (pink sheet), or obtained on STINF, or from the Registrar;

bring the completed application and transcript to the interview with Dr. Beck or Dr. Dalton.

For a Summer Practicum, see Dr. Beck or Dr. Dalton by Feb. 15.

For a Practicum in Fall semester, see Dr. Dalton by March 1.

For a Practicum in Spring semester, see Dr. Beck by October 1.

Residential and settings for treatment of children and youth with psychological disorders

This course can be used to meet the requirements for a Psychology Major or Psychology Minor, and can fill a General Education requirement.
