Student Standards is offering students (who owe us service hours) the opportunity to watch a movie from the list below and then answer some reflection questions based on the movie. For five passive service credit hours copy and past the questions below into an email, answer the questions, and email your responses to abeard@bloomu.edu. The Blind Side

1. Michael’s story is in many ways similar to a freshman arriving at college.  Michael faces difficulties due partially to not having stability in his life.  First year students often leave somewhat stable environments by moving away to college.  How have you been able to stabilize your life as a college student?  What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?  (Answer the question with at least 5-8 sentences or you may be asked to re-answer the question.)

2. Michael deals with a preconceived image of himself that is not accurate.  Explain how the event that brought you to the Office of Student Standards does or does not accurately portray you.  (Answer the question with at least 5-8 sentences or you may be asked to re-answer the question.)

3. Leigh Ann faced scrutiny from her friends for reaching out to Michael.  When, if ever, do your decisions change based on the opinions of others?  How has peer pressure affected you during your time at the University?  (Answer the question with at least 5-8 sentences or you may be asked to re-answer the question.)

4. Not only does Michael learn from the Tuohy family, but they learn from him as well.  We often learn lessons from unexpected events.  What have you learned from your policy violation that you might not have expected to learn?  (Answer the question with at least 5-8 sentences or you may be asked to re-answer the question.)

Has there ever been someone in your life who you felt was preventing you from reaching your full potential?  Why do you think one of Michael’s teachers was unwilling to pass him so he could get a football scholarship?  What would you have done in that teacher’s shoes?  (Answer the question with at least 5-8 sentences or you may be asked to re-answer the question.)
