Academic

Cadets attend 1 classroom session per week for 1-3 hours each session.  Freshmen and Sophomore cadets meet in the Army ROTC Building on Bloomsburg’s Lower Campus for class while Juniors and Seniors meet at the Spratt House—the Bison Battalion Headquarters—at Bucknell University.
            Bloomsburg University Army ROTC offers the following courses:
67.110  Introduction to Military Science (1 credit) – Freshman Fall Semester.  Provides an overview of the organization of the ROTC program. Students learn fundamental concepts of professional leadership in both classroom and field environments. Introduces skills such as rappelling, marksmanship, military customs, preparing military correspondence, and practical field training. One-hour class per week, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.
67.120  Introduction to Military Issues (1 credit) – Freshman Spring Semester.  Provides background in basic field craft skills essential to leaders. Learn/apply principles of effective leading. Develops communication skills to improve individual performance and group interaction. Additional instruction includes marksmanship, first aid, and land navigation. One-hour class per week, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.
67.210  Applied Leadership and Management I (1 credit) – Sophomore Fall Semester.  Provides an overview of the Army rank structure and a specific survey of the junior officer's duties and responsibilities within that rank structure. Develops skills through oral presentations, writing concisely, planning events, and coordination of group efforts. Two-hour class per week, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.
67.220  Applied Leadership and Management II (1 credit) – Sophomore Spring Semester.  Presents the fundamentals of small unit leadership, mission planning, and problem solving techniques. Students learn through case studies and field training how to evaluate and apply leadership styles and techniques. Two-hour class per week, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.
67.230  ROTC Leaders' Training Course (4 credits) - End of sophomore year summer training offered in lieu of the basic courses (freshman/sophomore years) for students who want to enter the advanced program (Jr/Sr years). The course is approximately 28-days long, held at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Students receive pay during training as well as travel, meals, and lodging expenses.
67.310  Advanced Military Science I (3 credits) – Junior Fall Semester.  Students learn through a series of practical opportunities to lead groups, receive personal assessments and leading again in situations of increasing complexity. Students plan and conduct training for younger students to reach and develop leadership skills. One 3-hour class per week, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.  Prerequisites: 67.110, 67.120, 67.210, & 67.220 OR 67.230 OR U.S. Army Basic Training.
67.320  Theory and Dynamics of the Military Team (3 credits) – Junior Spring Semester.  Practical application of the skills learned in 67.310. Students learn how to apply planning and management skills properly in conjunction with small unit tactics. One 3-hour class per week, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.  Prerequisites: 67.310 (see prerequisites for 67.310).
67.330 ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) (6 credits) - A 32-day practical application and evaluation phase required of each cadet prior to commissioning. LDAC places cadets in leadership positions where they must put into practice the techniques learned on campus in both tactical and non-tactical situations. Students receive pay during training as well as travel, meals and lodging expenses.  Prerequisites: 67.320 (see prerequisites for 67.320).
67.410  Advanced Leadership and Management I (3 credits) – Senior Fall Semester.  Presents advanced leadership and management skills required of a manger in a military environment. Students plan, conduct, and evaluate activities of the ROTC cadet organization. Students articulate goals and put plans into action to attain them. One 3-hour class time, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.  Prerequisites: 67.330 (see prerequisites for 67.330).
67.420  Advanced Leadership and Management II (3 credits) – Senior Spring Semester.  Continues the methodology from 67.410. Students learn basic procedures of military law and their application in a military environment, identify and resolve ethical dilemmas, and refine counseling and motivating techniques. One 3-hour class time per week, approximately 20 hours of laboratory time per semester.  Prerequisites: 67.410 (see prerequisites for 67.410).
