CLUBS+ORGANIZATIONS: Majors and others interested in Sociology have the opportunity to get involved in The Sociology Club and Alpha Kappa Delta, the Sociological Honor Society.

THE SOCIOLOGY CLUB
The Sociology Club provides majors and other interested students the opportunity to engage in both social and sociological activities and events.  The club engages in a community service project each semester as well.  A number of important aims orient the group.  The primary focuses are to 1) inform university students about sociology, 2) make others aware of how social problems influence our lives, 3) plan and execute campus events focused on sociological issues, 4) offer students interested in sociology with a forum in which to express themselves, and 5) provide those involved an opportunity to develop their leadership and organizational skills.

Dr. Brandon Lang is the club's faculty coordinator.  If you have questions, you can reach Dr. Lang by email at klang@bloomu.edu or by phone at 389 5132.

ALPHA KAPPA DELTA
Anthropon Katamanthanein Diakonsein - "To investigate humanity for the purpose of service".

Alpha Kappa Delta is the International Sociological Honor Society.  It was founded by Dr. Emory S. Bogardus in 1920.  Dr. Bogardus promoted AKD as a means of supporting scholarship and the scientific study of society through the promotion of student and faculty interchange.  The organization ahs since became an international organization that includes over 80,000 scholars and more then 490 chapters.  If you'd like to learn more, try the AKD national website.

The local chapter, Phi of Pennsylvania, was founded in 1980.  The chapter is always evolving as new students become members and other students move on into their careers. Our current goals include increasing our level of participation in activities sponsored by the national organization, providing career information to our members, and helping fund student participation in professional activities.
