SHARE (Students Helping Adolescents Reach Excellence)
is a student initiated and run program. SHARE links Bloomsburg University volunteers to local elementary, middle, and high school students. There are currently 10 area schools enrolled in the SHARE program including 8 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. The mentees are students who have shown need socially and/or academically. It is a win-win situation for both student and mentor because the student receives one-on-one guidance while the mentor gains hands-on volunteer experience.
Education majors gain valuable hands-on experience working with children. As mentors, the time they spend with the children allows them to see the theories they have learned in the classroom put into practice. Students become more adept at communicating and relating to children. In some cases, the SHARE experience has helped students solidify themselves as educators or to choose a career path that better fits their skills or interest.
SHARE Site Coordinators
The SHARE Program is looking to hire site coordinators to drive CGA vans to each of the tutoring sites. Interested candidates must be 21 years old to drive and qualify for work study. Stop by 224 SSC or call 389-4788.
