COAL TOWNSHIP — Nichole Cosgrove, a senior at Shamokin Area Middle-High School, is one of four 2008 Dell Scholars from Pennsylvania. (The News Item, May 3, 2008)
This honor, made possible through the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, provides $20,000, educational resources, networking abilities and other tools to assist recipients in reaching their post-secondary goals. Scholar recipients must demonstrate eligibility by meeting a number of criteria, including participation in a college readiness program.

Cosgrove met the eligibility requirements through her active role in the TRiO Upward Bound program at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania (BU).

TRiO Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and serves prospective first-generation college students with financial need. The program at Bloomsburg University will celebrate 30 years of alumni success this summer.

Cosgrove, who will attend Penn State University this fall, is the second student from BU’s TRiO Upward Bound program to receive a Dell Scholarship.

Mt. Carmel and Berwick Bounders attended "Choosing the Right College", an open house for juniors and seniors hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday, April 26th. Attendees learned how to compose a college essay, the dos and don'ts of campus interviews and how to stay on-track with their high school curriculum.

North Schuylkill High School Bounders organized a fundraiser to benefit the Hillside SPCA of Schuylkill county. On Wednesday, April 23rd, they presented over $400 in funds and over 100 pounds of pet food to a grateful staff and many furry friends! Way to go NS Bounders.
