If you are not yet eligible to receive an invitation to the TRiO UB@BU Summer Academy, or you have younger siblings interested in a summer opportunity, please review some of the below options.
PFEW- Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week
Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week is an intensive program that educates high school students about the American free enterprise system held at Lycoming College and Penn Tech in Williamsport PA. Participants learn the in and outs of free enterprise businesses and create a simulated business and learn what it takes to keep their business up and running.
Susquehanna University Life Workshop
The Leadership Institute for Entrepreneurship (LIFE) introduces students to finance, banking, stock, bonds, sales, advertising, trade, and effective collaboration. It is a week long summer program that helps students with interest in entrepreneurship see what a possible career would be like.
Susquehanna University High School Wind Ensemble Institute
A summer program that allows 55 high school students who excel at woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments to come to the campuses highly regarded music program for the summer. The students are selected through audition and it is a week long residential campus that focuses on chamber music and symphony performances.
Susquehanna University Writers Workshop
The Writers Workshop is open to experienced writers in 11th or 12th grade; it provides talented writers with the opportunity to work in small group workshops headed by nationally recognized authors. The participants are chosen based on teacher recommendations and portfolio submissions. Each applicant is required to submit 5-6 poems or 6-8 pages of fiction/creative non fiction.
Bloomsburg University QUEST
This is an adventure based summer program for active children that wish to try new things. Some of the trips planned from this week range from the 50' climbing tower, to scavenger hunts, to 200' zip lines, to rafts on the Susquehanna. The cost is $180 dollars per student per week.
PA State Police Camp Cadet
For children ages 12-15 the goal of Camp Cadet is to introduce participants to the diverse criminal justice system and establish a positive relationship with law enforcement personnel. Cadets are required to participate in all scheduled events. The camp focuses on discipline, self-esteem, teamwork, drug and alcohol education, violence prevention and many other issues facing today’s youth. The camp is at no cost to the participant.
Summer Honors Program for High School Students
Indiana University of PA, Robert E. Cook Honors College's Summer Honors Program is a place where talented high school students come together for one to three weeks and form a community of scholars who explore academic and collegiate living in a real college setting.
LEAD Program
Wharton University-University of Pennsylvania. Leadership, Education, and Development is a four-week program introducing minority high school students to key areas of business. First established at Wharton, reflecting a long-standing commitment to developing business leaders through business education, the LEAD program has become a nationwide initiative with programs at ten other universities.

Dennison University TRiO Upward Bound Scholarship
This scholarship valued at $18,000 was established for students who are involved in UB across the country. Successful candidates must present strong academic credentials and be outstanding UB participants. This scholarship is available for four years provided a stipulated GPA is maintained. The be considered for admission to Dennison and the UB Scholarship, seniors must apply by 1/15/10 using the Common Application - your $40 application fee will be waived. (Dennison is located in Grantville, Ohio. It is a fully residential, selective, four year, co-ed, liberal arts college. Nearly 2,100 students attend, representing 46 states and 25 countries. The student body has a multicultural population of 22%.
