Heather Smith-Feldhaus is a sociologist whose general area of specialty is the intersection of gender, race, and social class. More specifically, much of her research has centered on why people make the choices they do regarding achievement. This includes how they choose their goals and how they choose to pursue them. Her most recent projects include analysis of portrayals of holiday celebrations in parenting magazines and a needs assessment of Columbia County commissioned by the Columbia County Human Service Coalition.
She received her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in 2002 and has been teaching at Bloomsburg since Fall Semester 2002. She teaches on Marriage and Family, Social Problems, Work and Occupations, and Race and Ethnicity.
She also coordinates the Bloomsburg University Chapter
of the International Sociological Honor Society as well as the Sociology Club.
