Languages and Cultures Freshman Scholarship

$250
For a language major who will be a second semester freshman in the spring semester preceding the award year. Applicants must have taken at least one course above Elementary Two (10.203, 11.203, or 12.203), be enrolled in at least 204 Intermediate Language, have a letter of recommendation from a fall semester instructor, have been in the upper 15% of their high school class, or have a verbal SAT score of at least 525 (if a native speaker of English). If a non-native speaker of English other qualifications will be considered as appropriate. All applicants must also have a cumulative grade point average of not less than 3.0 and a 3.8 grade point average in the fall foreign language course(s) in their major.

A Bloomsburg University Scholarship Application is required. Please submit the application to the chairperson of the Department of Languages and Cultures.


William A. Turnbach Scholarship

$925
One award for either history OR foreign language major (including American Sign Language); junior or senior status in semester of award payment; priority to graduates of Hazleton Area or West Hazleton High Schools or Bishop Hafey High School. If no graduate from these schools qualifies, graduates from Weatherly High School, Freeland Mining & Mechanical Institute, Tamaqua, Marian Catholic, Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley, and Pottsville High Schools, & Nativity BVM will be considered. Pending donor’s availability, agree to attend the fall BU scholarship luncheon and reception with him or her. Bloomsburg University Scholarship Application required. Apply through the History Department.


Pomfret Study Abroad Scholarship

$625
Given to a student studying abroad during the academic year. Eligible recipient list not provided before November 15 of each year. Therefore, a student could receive the scholarship after completion of their study abroad (if they chose to study in the fall semester). Scholarship is intended to be used for travel costs. Recipient must be a Languages and Cultures major. Summer study abroad is not eligible.

No application necessary.
Selection made by Department of Languages and Cultures
